Gnomes v. Faeries

WARNING: This report contains extreme violence from the very beginning!

APOLOGY : I was trying out a new battle mat this game. Unfortunately, it gave out a lot of glare, which spoils some of the pictures.

Faeries
Gwendoline
Slivertongue
Fencer
Fraya
Diana
Wasp

Gnomes
Mama Gimble
Gradock
Muridae
Billy
Morris
Young Jack

The moonstone scatter is pretty even. Looks like this will be  balanced game.

Turn 1

Gwendoline, Slivertongue, Morris and Mama Gimble all set to harvesting. Wasp moves up to guard a moonstone, only for Billy to attack him with ramming speed, dealing 2 damage, which Fraya immediately heals, before dealing 3 damage to Billy with fizzle-pop.

Gradock snare traps Wasp, bluffing a green 1. Wasp reaction steps to re-engage Billy, so he cannot harvest next turn.

Diana casts horrifying visions on Billy, wounding Wasp to take extra cards. She plays a pink 2, reducing Billy to 2 wounds. Muridae rushes up to support him.

Young Jack helps Gradock with his harvest and plays lucky, placing the green 3, 2 and 1 on the top of the deck for next turn (unfortunately I forgot all about this shortly afterwards!).

Faeries are winning 2 moonstones (Gwendoline and Silvertongue) to 1 (Morris) but 3 more are within easy reach of the gnomes.

Turn 2

Faeries win the roll-off and Wasp attacks Billy. An epic battle ensues, involving many high guards and and diving bombs. Billy perishes in the exchange and Wasp is reduced to 1 wound.

Mother Gimble harvests a moonstone and uses mother’s wrath to finish Wasp. But the move leaves her exposed. Fencer moves in to attack. Mama Gimble plays a low guard, intending to play her signature move and swap out with another gnome to continue the fight. Unfortunately, Fencer has 3 thrusts. Bye bye, Mama!

That still leaves Fencer with plenty of energy. She harvests Gimble’s moonstone and then attacks Muridae. Less success this time. Two rising attacks versus two falling swings later, Fencer is slain and Muridae picks up the moonstone.

Tiring of the faery casualties, Diana decides it’s time to dole out some damage herself. She plays feed on fear on Young Jack, draining one energy and bolstering Fraya. Then she casts horrifying visions on Muridae, wounding herself to make the spell particularly effective with a pink 3. In return, Young Jack tries to attack her, but she steps away.

Fraya casts fizzle-pop on Muridae 3 times. The first two fizzle out, but she draws a pink 3 on the third attempt, reducing Muridae to 1 wound.

Gradock harvests and makes Gwendoline forget how to lure, rendering her useless this turn. Silvertongue heals Diana with whispered secrets and Morris harvests another moonstone.

Gnomes lead 4 moonstones (2 Morris, 1 Gradock, 1 Muridae) to 2 (Gwendoline and Silvertongue). With Muridae at 1 wound, the gnome’s lead is precarious.

Turn 3

Diana drains one energy from Young Jack and gives it to herself. She then proceeds to slay Muridae with horrifying visions, before targeting Jack with a pink 3. Jack gulps down his magic brew, gaining two energy. He slays Diana and chases Fraya, who steps away carefully.

Gwendoline lures Young Jack away from the moonstones. Gradock is too far away to cover them, so he uses snare traps on Fraya, dealing two wounds. That doesn’t stop Fraya from grabbing both moonstones.

Silvertongue engages Young Jack to make it harder for him to chase after Fraya next turn and he mind controls Gradock to make Morris forget sinkhole. With nothing else to do from distance, Morris moves towards the fray (although carrying two moonstones, that’s not fast).

The tables have turned in the Fae’s favour. They lead 4 moonstones (2 Fraya, 1 Gwendoline, 1 Silvertongue) to 3 (2 Morris, 1 Gradock)

Turn 4

Faeries win the roll/off once again and Fraya runs for it, healing herself on the way.Young Jack figures that, if he can’t get Fraya, Silvertongue will do. He draws a terrible attack hand, however, but is able to play two low guards and trigger his signature shield bash to push Silvertongue back 4 inches, freeing him up to chase after Fraya.

Fraya goes for It in the melee, drawing two extra cards but she still fails to get a high guard to trigger her signature, which would have meant she avoided any damage. Instead, she falls to Jack’s two falling swings. Two moonstones fall to the ground but he hasn’t the energy to harvest them.

Silvertongue casts whispered secrets on Gwendoline, giving her 2 extra energy and he mind controls Gradock again to make Morris forget sinkhole.

Gradock moves towards the moonstones. Gwendoline lures him towards her and attacks, in a last-ditch attempt to make him drop his moonstone and even the game. Gradock just slips away.

Gnomes win 3 moonstones (2 Morris, 1 Gradock) to 2 (Silvertongue and Gwendoline).

Moral of the story: Faeries hate battling for a few moonstones in the centre of the table: gnomes love it!
